The Art of Shopping

I must admit I’m still learning how to be a savvy shopper/consumer, but I’ve recently discovered some tips that I must follow to make shopping an easier and more enjoyable (though chore-like) experience.

Shop around

Once upon a time, it was such a relief to find the item I was looking for. But I have learned to shop around and do my research first to find the best bargain, value-for-money, quality, or the best of the best! Keep reading »

What Have We Become?

I shop therefore I am

In the midst of heavy duty shopping season, Maven NatBat reflects on our consumer culture:

Sorry QANTAS, I think I'm out...

#qantasluxury

My best friend as a kid (still my best friend, in fact) was raised, in part, by his gay dad and stepdad. Sure enough, stepdad was a Qantas steward of many years’ standing. And of all the tales with which he’d regale us of his work exploits, what’s stuck with me the most was his scathing description of Qantas business culture – from top to bottom, he’d say, self-absorbed, superior, and with an almost genocidally hostile view of its customers as a class of beings.
