Honda agrees safety airbags probably shouldn't fire shrapnel into drivers' faces

This one's good. Honda has announced a worldwide recall of certain models (in Australia, the recall affects only 2001 and 2002 Honda Accords and 2002 Honda CR-Vs) owing to a risk of driver's side safety airbags overinflating, exploding and causing "fragments to scatter". According to reports, the fault has occurred 12 times, once fatally. (!)

No details of how the recall works for local Honda drivers, though presumably, like in the case of the recent Toyota Prius recall, affected car owners will be contacted directly. Failing that, our strong advice would that such affected car owners contact the place from which they purchased their Honda, or else their nearest Honda sales centre, as soon as possible.

Precisely why it's taken 8-9 years to issue the recall is not clear, but, in so far as airbags are typically meant to protect drivers' heads from injury, not assist in high-impact, involuntary, facial reconstruction, Honda's recall sounds like quite a good idea.

We mean, honestly...
