I wanted to like it more
I really wanted to love Alio - and maybe high expectations were the problem, as I found myself disappointed after my first meal there. I loved that we could book online, and the menu looked great. Yet somehow the elements of my evening there didn't rise to the level of being four or five stars: the service was adequate, but not particularly warm; the food we had was patchy (excellent salad, vongole pasta, while the other things we had were just OK); and the space was fine. So, nothing to complain about, but I won't be rushing back. (I'd heard such great things about the place I'd been hoping for more.)
Been a while since I ate here, but I remember it being excellent
This mid-range Italian bistro has been a Surry Hills staple for what must be at least a decade, and, in that tough restaurant market, that's telling you something.
The food's standard modern Italian fare, but done well, presented nicely, service is good, and it's dependably the same each time. Prices are decent too.
You'll have a reliably good, moderately upscale mod Italian meal here.
