Good pizzas, still, but overall not quite a four star place
This Paddo classic - originator in Sydney's East of the upscale pizza joint - still does fine pizzas (sausage; potato and rosemary; gorgonzola numbers, etc.
But overall, it's never been, for my taste, quite a four star place.
The wait for tables can still be a pain; it can be a little cool for school. And it's always lacked a certain something - a friendly vibe, perhaps?
But it's pretty quick once you're seated, not outrageous (while also not being cheap), and conveniently located near Paddo Town Hall, making it a good location for a meal before sports events down the road at the SCG/SFS, pubbing in Paddo, or movie at the Palace Cinemas a few blocks down the road or the Chauvel Cinema virtually across the road. In all, like it, don't love it.
Was told this was once the best pizza in Sydney, now not so sure
Arriving a Sydney a few years ago we were told that Arthur's Pizza in Paddington, of the upside down sign, was one of Sydney's best. Generally there are only a few very good pizza places and the rest fall into the abysmal category, so we were cautious when visiting.
A variety of toppings and styles on offer, the bases are thin and crispy. But are they good? Meh. When I think good pizza I think of the amazing simplicity yet awesome flavour that is pizza e birra's margherita. If the flavours need to creep into tandoori lamb territory then maybe their overcompensating.
That said it is a massive step up from Dominos.
