Go the dumplings!
A good mate dragged me along to Bamboo last night and it's always a thrill to discover another one of Sydney's hidden gems. How did I not know about this place before?
We arrived late - around 9pm - and aside from one other couple, we had the restaurant to ourselves. We ordered prawn dumplings, duck pancakes and various other things that I can't remember which could have been due to the copious amounts of wine I had polished off before dinner.
Nonetheless, I sidled up to the bar to grab a couple of glasses of vino and had an impromptu chat to the barman. He told me his Tuesday night was going well and I replied that mine was too despite knowing I had to go to work the next morning. He explained his theory that Tuesday nights are called "tasty Tuesday" because you get the "taste" for a drink; then comes wet Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday - and Friday, well it's just Friday.
The staff were attentive and friendly - case in point my chat to the bloke at the bar. And the dumplings killed it resulting in a war over who would get the last one. I was willing to cut it in half but apparently I'd already had my fair share.
I'll be back Bamboo. That I can guarantee.
always satisfies!
We discovered bamboo dumpling bar about 2 months ago and have averaged a visit a fortnight since then. Its never let us down, and being about 300metre from our apartment block, its an obvious choice when we can’t be bothered to cook or stray very far from home.
We usually have the $20 dumpling fix platter, which always hit the spot. However, on Monday night we extended ourselves a little bit mentally and made up our own order :-)
The Schezuan pork spicy noodles were possibly a little too hot for us, but we still enjoyed it. Our order also included the very yummy Pork and Prawn shu mei dumplings, BBQ pork buns (with an extra one included because we are such good customers!) and Salt & Pepper squid- mmmmm
Highly recommend a visit to the Surry Hills Bamboo Dumpling Bar.
