Just the coolest!
The Basement survives whilst others falter, and thats what I love about this venue that used to be a jazz club but yet has somehow maintained those roots yet grown with the times.
I have seen the marvellous Mr Percival with his all vocal show blow people's minds with his richness of voice and unique talent. I have seen the rocker come rockabilly wonder that is peregrine fill a dancefloor for album launches and special events and been up close and personal with the most delicate sounds of the likes of Melanie Horsnell and Wes Carr before Wes became a Pop Idol. Great stuff!
haven't done the food there myself but hjave had many a great night dancing away to some great acts, or simply been blown away by the really special magic of their sound, atmosphere and audience. It's great!
Superb music venue with great bars, staff
Most likely you'll be here to see a particular music artist. But if the venue is a deciding factor for you, go for this place with bells on.
It's intimate (only about 300 people) with a pleasant, jazzy fitout.
You can eat a full meal (pretty good food) and in that way sit at a table to watch your act, or stand and watch (most vantage points are excellent). Sound is superb, and the bars are great too: good drinks, not ridiculously expensive and mostly informed and friendly staff who obviously love their music.
It's close to my favourite music venue in Australia.
