Great selection of books and helpful staff
This is my local and my favourite book shop. Great selection of fiction with good recommendations from the staff shown by cards on the shelves by the side of the books. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and are always willing to look up books on the computer and order them in for you if they are not available on the shelf. If the book you want is on the shelf, the staff always know exactly where to find it. They also have a very good selection of children's books. A great place to browse but I can never just do that here as I always manage to find something to buy.
The best kids' book section
Dropped into Better Read Than Dead the other day, on mavens' recommendations, and was SO impressed. The children's section is fabulous, and the staff told me they have a full-time book buyer for children's books - this investment shows, as the selection is top quality. I will be back here regularly to buy books for the kids - and some reading treats for myself too.
Great local bookstore
In the heart of newtown on king street this is a lovely store to browse through on a lazy day. With staff reviews and recommendations on good books to read, tables of books to browse through and 2 levels to explore this is a great place to while away some time. There is a large childrens section as well. I think its great to support the individual store owners rather than only the large chain book stores.
A book store large enough to find what you are looking for but with a small stores customer service
This is one of my favourite book stores in Sydney and is a fantastic place either to buy for yourself, to buy a gift or just for a browse. Better Read than Dead is the sort of book store run by people who love reading all types of books so they can help you choose an obscure science fiction novel or recommend their favourite from the Booker Prize shortlist. They also have an ABC store section, a book of the month club and a fantastic kids section run by Mandy who is not only incredibly knowledgeable but also enthusiastic about children’s literature.
