great pastry and coffee in newtown
This tiny shop in Australia Street newtown finally brought great pastry and coffee to newtown. You can sit on makeshift seats in the street or one of 2 tables inside. The desserts are a real treat especially the crumble and the chocolate tart with sea salt. The coffee is delicious and so is the bread.
A brilliant pastry shop just off King St
Black Star is a brilliant pastry shop just off King Street. Great coffee, superb sandwiches and pies (the old school mince pie is not to be missed) and even delicious salads for the virtuous. But come for the pastries and cakes - you won't find better anywhere. Inventive and traditional in equal measure, you'll break your dieting rules and feel good about it.
Casual and cool
Black star pastry is located just off king st, newtown in Australia street. Stools litter the footpath outside with locals enjoying great coffee and to-die-for-desserts. Personal faves include the chocolate caramel tart and the orange blossom cake. Salads, sandwiches, and pies are also good (my husband ate three of the lamb pies in a row - he simply could not stop). Not cheap but well worth it the sugar and butter fix.

definetley worth the trip from darlo having worked with the owner before at Quay i had high hopes.
Was not dissapointed, service can be cold at times but the pastry is star excellent raspberry galette, bread and butter pudding with take away creme anglaise was awesome.

Fabulous tarts
The tarts at Black Star are truly delicious and while pricey, they are worth it. They're attractive too and a great option for a dinner party dessert. The shop itself was packed when I went there on a Sunday afternoon, and I found the service to be fine, but lacking warmth. I'd be back though - not for a cafe experience, but to pick up some divine dessert...
Go for the sandwiches and pies and you won't be disappointed
The pastry chef at Black Star makes terrrific tarts, pies and sandwishes and great coffee is also available. The pastries such as the croissants are probably a bit crisp for my taste but the lamb pies are divine. Bread is brought in from Victoire Bakery, including the delicious Olive Bread. Black Star is not a cheap option for your daily fix of caffeine and sweet and is cash only.
