There is something about talking about good wine when planning a dinner party with someone who knows what they are talking about that fills you with an embarrassingly high sense of self worth. At Bottega DV they have a great selection of Italian wines and know what they are talking about. The surrounds match the mood (for spending and consuming). It is the ultimate in middle class wankery to talk Italian wine and meat combos in the the inner ctiy east - but it is also a hell of a lot of fun. If you also think so then this is the place

The best muffins
I realize the muffins are not probably the draw for most people to this spot (after all is "Bottega del vino"), but Bottega happens to have the best muffins I've had in Sydney. Full of flavour, just crisp enough on the top, and not too sweet. I mentioned this to them, and they said it's because they use real butter, sugar, fillings - i.e., they taste homemade because they're made like homemade.
So: pick up a muffin if you're in the neighbourhood. And you'll find a great selection of wines, cheese, bread, and ready-to-go meals too.
