Truly tradional Italian
Really great italian food
Really great italian food, try the cold cuts...The no-reservation policy is a real pain, especially since they also refuse to call your cell phone when your table is ready (useful for the 400 people living in the ikon building...)Hygiene is also a BIG issue, for those of us you share the common areas of the Ikon (my cellar gives directly on their kitchen), these are not restaurant operations you want to see in a place that's meant to be "up market"...The grocery store is also very good.
Good food, but a hassle
The (Italian) food here is lovely and the menu broad and uniformly tempting, but the service leaves much to be desired: (1) they don't take reservations, so you take your chances with a long wait...and it is often crowded, so a wait is almost inevitable; (2) they don't offer to call you/notify you, so this generally means you are waiting in the very crowded 'bar' area - which is really the throughway for the groceries going to and from the storage room; (3) I have found staff several times to be either (or both) brusque, acting as if they are doing ME the favor, or somewhat clueless/delayed. I recommend the food, but also recommend going on a slow night, to minimize hassle.
