Satisfied but not satiated.
Having decided with a few mates to pop down to the new Pitt St. Mall, I had high hopes and a hungry stomach.
Initial impressions of the area showed a busy and full dining area, with the line winding through the seated customers. Although I had prepared myself for a lengthy wait, the line was cut down at a fast pace, and before I knew it, I had a beeper, waiting for my order. The beeper was thankfully not in my hands for long, as I swapped it for my eagerly awaited burger.
Having ordered the truffle, parmesan fries, and the headlining wagyu burger, I was expecting to be satiated by the end of it. Unfortunately this was not the happy ending I recieved.
The fries were great; truffle incorporated into potato, providing a subtle depth of flavour I was not expecting, while still containing a stringy crunch from the melted parmesan.
The highlight, the wagyu burger was great, the cheddar on the patty providing melted tastiness, meat cooked to perfection, with beetroot relish a sweet sweet base, gherkins adding a glorious tang.
My only qualm, I needed more.
If burgers were made in heaven
Although you might not think a $16 burger is value for money - I'm talking real bang for your buck. For every dollar you spend, you get that little extra effort put into a beautifully hand crafted burger. They start with a toasted bun, soft on the inside, hard on the outside and add a sweet beetroot paste to it. Above that they place a pattie of deliciously minced wagyu beef and top it off with fresh lettuce. The only qualms I had with the burger was the slightly salty sour pickle, but in any case, well worth the wait (believe me, there is quite a line for this place).
A special mention must be made to the parmesan and truffle fries. Delicious! It has taken man a long time to combine the forces of mushrooms and fries but it has been done.
All in all, I would still go for the New Yorker (sirloin on a baguette) as it is slightly cheaper coming in at $10 and looks and sounds (according to a friend) like it packs a punch.
Tasty food, reasonable value for money.
Try the New York Sandwich - it is, in my opinion, one of the best value for money meals. My friends were quite disappointed with the amount of food they were given for their Wagyu burger, so I wouldn't recommend that for anyone but manic wagyu fans. The parmesan and mushroom fries are fantastic - they really are quite unique, and will certainly delight your tastebuds!
Fabulous fries...
The truffle & parmesan fries are indeed divine. And I love the concept of gourmet burgers. But the execution didn't live up to the promise, at least on my first visit: the burger was decent, but nothing special, and didn't justify to me the high price; and the person who took my order was unfriendly. Plus it's difficult to find - no fault of theirs, but the layout of the new Westfield's food court is obstructed and confusing. I won't be rushing back, though I am willing to give them another go.
