I love a great steak, and I'm just not in love with the place...
I'm a steak lover, and a lover of fancy meals out, so this upscale 'chophouse' (steaks, seafood but also specialising in chopped grilled meats served in main course-sized salad form) from the people also responsible for the 'Kingsleys' steak/seafood restaurants should be a killer experience for people like me. So what's missing? For one thing the location on drab, verging on depressing lower CBD Bligh Street isn't inspiring, especially the outdoor seating. Inside is attractive with its leather booths and so forth, but it's just too darn big and cavernous. And the service, while attentive, isn't that professional or fluid. Nothing's ever quick (drinks, menus, etc.) and things are also a little haphazard. And, like Kingsley's, it isn't cheap (think $35-$60 for steaks), meaning the experience should and needs to be superb, which it isn't. It's an ok place for a guys' lunch in the CBD or tourists looking for a steak if staying or visiting the city. But otherwise, stick to Kingsleys, on Woolloomooloo Wharf or other upmarket options in the CBD like Rockpool Bar and Grill.Want to love it; can't bring myself to.
The best steak ever!
FANTASTIC! Great food and service
We were so glad we went on a Thursday - as it turns out they have live music every Thursday with donations of $5 per person going to the Australian Children’s Music Foundation. It just adds to the already get atmosphere
We shared a bottle of Pommery's French champagne which was just $60 a bottle (ok we shared 3 bottles!)
I had the double double lamb chops which comes with mint jelly ($26.90) my friends had the Rangers veal t-bone ($25.50) and the glazed beef short rib with homemade BBQ sauce ($29.50) - we shared sides of seasonal beans, potato puree (great mash!), and onion rings with parmesan salt.
After debating for a long time over which dessert we should go for we decided to shared their signature dessert the Swiss milk chocolate block with rocky road ($16.50) which was divine!
I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more- great value and a fantastic birthday
