The best sandwich shop in Sydney

This has been the best sandwich shop in Sydney since inception in late 2006 (I think). Founders Cliff and Paulina were the ultimate tag team: Cliff devised the delicious sandwiches, while Paulina provided the velvet service and operational steel. The Colliers sold out to new owners in 2008 and, while the sandwiches have remained superb, the service has become a bit erratic. Still the best place to lunch around, and the sandwiches get five stars.

THE best sandwiches. Once you've been here, all other sandwiches will pale in comparison... Worth the walk from the CBD; if you venture here from town, you'll see other refugees escaping those pale, over-priced food court sandwiches. Best sandwiches include: #4 (chicken schnitzel); #19 (egg salad & crispy pancetta); #24 (roast beef, caramelized onion, horseradish cream). The coffee and snack items are good too. Service is friendly & welcoming. Warning though: the 12:30-1:30 hour can be madness, so there can be a wait at this peak time; otherwise, service is usually prompt.

Great food, excellent prices and lovely people but sometimes slow and a little too relaxed

Things are definitely going downhill in a major way. I was there last week, when, at lunchtime, they not only had no chicken (like, a staple of about 50% of their sandwiches), they also weren't able to make coffee (because, apparently, the coffee guy was needed to make sandwiches, which, remember, they couldn't make because they had no chicken). Something weird is going on at what was once the most reliable cafe in east Sydney. UPDATE: things have seemed to pick up in the months since I first wrote this.

Yummy, but room to improve

I love a good toastie, esp in the morning the sandwiches here are pretty legendary.

Have been here twice and love the selection and find the service friendly, but for my palate, they over season things a little.

My coffee (moccha) is a little too sweet for my tastes, even with a double shot of coffee and the toasties I have had are good in terms of ingredients and fresh but too salty, even when I remember to ask for no seasoning.

That probably sounds a bit fussy but I kind of like the option to season or sguar as I go as opposed to having too much of it forced on me. Service is also a little slower than I am used to but it may be because I have only really ever hit there during morning.

Will go back, but might also check out other places first.

Yummo food & coffee. Service needs improving!

Great sandwiches, foccacia, wraps, salads and coffee is very good.

Service/personality of some staff could be improved. At times they are grumpy...I think one in particular is the owner...Its a shame they lost the bright & happy two previous female floorstaff.

Still worth the visit as the food is excellent.
