Everything Letraset has to say is spot-on. But let me add that you must go downstairs to the cavernous wine bar before completing your experience at The Commons.

You'd never know it from the cute garden patio, but step downstairs and a whole new world emerges. Dark, low-ceilinged, warm, candlelit -- everything you want in a wine bar that transports you to another time and place (although it'll give your wallet a good lil pinch at the same time). The wine bar is intimate, cosy, and romantic, and the perfect starter to your dinner, which will of course include a fabulous menu of fresh offerings and excellent service to boot.

Great atmosphere, quality eats

I don't generally go in for the organic, earthy deal, but The Commons have nailed the whole vibe of this oft-criticised sub-culture.

The garden courtyard outside looks like how I wish my garden looked, and would be a fine spot for drink before going out post-work - far superior to the cavernous void of Doctor Pong just across the road.

But I'm here for the food and as you walk through the door to the squat old-Sydney house you're welcomed by a warm sprawl of common (derr) wooden tables, sandstone, great lighting and a nicely tended fireplace. It's a great mix of traditional and modern.

Now for the food: a good range of seasonal items on the menu, which change with reasonable frequency. Simple meals which don't try too hard but achieve a satisfying level of cool and taste. Start of with antipasti to share or a charcuterie 'board'. Mains of ravioli with sage butter, eggplant parmigiana and a special I couldn't and still can't pronounce (salty sausage and lentils - better than it sounds) are all great.

Service is attentive and helpful; friendly to match the menu. Wine list is strong, and a good selection of boutique beers should keep the people happy.

Sometimes it can get a bit cold, so bring a jumper or sit near the fire if it's cold out.

It's all very charming, food is good, value is OK - if only they learnt to serve bread with the meals that demand them. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall would be mostly proud.

Go there now, fools!

Attentive but not annoying stuff. Tasty food & wine!

I had lasagne and it was the most perfect lasagne i've ever eaten - lovely balance of meat and cheese and pasta and nom nom!  We also
shared garlic potatos and salad.

I had Barossa Valley wine - Fools Bay Cabernet Sauvignon, which was so delicious.

The place is very quaint and home-y.

The waiters were attentive but not annoying and because we were there early (at 6 on a Tuesday) it wasn't too busy.

Just perfect!
