Doorstep Organics: Marrickville

Like many people I lead a busy life.  While I love shopping at Farmer's Markets and organic produce suppliers, I just didn't have enough time to spend.  Consequently the rise of organic food delivery services was a godsend.  

A friend referred me to Doorstep Organics and I thought they looked like a good place to start.  How wrong I was.

Ordering went well enough, the selection was OK and delivery was to be free.  I looked forward to receiving my order the next Tuesday.

Tuesday came and went and.....nothing.  Despite having an invoice and confirmation of order.  A 5:30pm phone call yielded an answer machine, but I did receive a follow up early Wednesday morning with an apology for a 'glitch' and a promise of delivery that day.  All good.

The delivery came and imagine my surprise to find some of the goods were just wrong.  Dozen eggs, not half (which isn't a terrible mistake), but also paper towel, not toilet tissue.  Which impacted the family a little more.

Then there was no information about how and when payment would be made.  This lead to another series of email exchanges (with no offer to exchange or refund the incorrect goods).  I had to advise them that for a service that was meant to save me time and money, Doorstep had saved me neither.

Their response:  (and I quote)

"You can't please everyone."  

No 'sorry for the inconvenience', 'no we value your custom'.

If I wasn't going to post a review before, I was now.  And tell my friend who had referred me.  And Twitter.

So in the end I'm being generous in giving them 2 stars, for the quality of the fruit and veg was lovely, if only their staff could be the same.
