Was a little let down
Don't get me wrong, it can be hard to get a great coffee on the Central Coast and the Fat Goose do a great job. And they have some awesome takes on bakery favourites and I really enjoyed my beef, mushy and red wine pie- but I have to say there was something lacking.
I think it might have been that we couldn't get a table and did the take away route (which is pretty awesome within itself considering its literally across the road from the actual Hardy's Bay)- but it took aaaaaages to get a pie (pre made, no extras) a juice, 2 x coffees and banana bread (pre made, just needed toasting and buttering). I shouldn't have to wait for almost half an hour to walk out with these items, and I shouldn't get the drinks so quickly and wait so long for the food that the coffees are luke warm once they are consumed.
Or am I a spoilt Sydney sider?
I was also put off by them bagging out Sydney dining and coffee with a patron when the prices were actually higher than what I usually pay in Sydney, the produce no better and the delay out of touch with what makes a good experience. Again, maybe they just got up my nose due to that commentary and I was sensitive to the wait... who knows!
Worthwhile sure, but I think there are better establishments on the Coast myself.
The cafe they all fuss over at Hardys Bay... but, to be honest, 'meh'
Hardy's Bay is the upmarket-ish bit of NSW Central Coast's beach town Killcare, and the big cafe drawcard is said to be this deli/bakery. But it's really nothing special - pleasant enough, but with so-so coffee, unremarkable pastries (which, despite the place being a bakery, it was unclear if had been made on premises) and usual, random, 'oops, we were so busy being from a beach town we forgot half the sh*t you ordered' small town, well-meaning, but ultimately unprofessional service.
It's all fine, if you're in the area and need a quick something. But you'd never make a special trip here. Hell, it's probably not even the best cafe in the Killcare area. At least, I hope not.
