Lilttle Italy is hiding in here (sort of)
2 or 3-course special Monday to Thursday : $27 or $35 fixed menu .. Great deal!
Plentiful servings accompanied by a splendid rustic dining room falls just short of earning this little gem a 5-star rating. The dishes have something just a tad "off" (couldn't put my finger on it exactly....but for instance the risotto was far too grainy), but they are mostly yummy and served in large portions, even on the fixed price menu.
The ambience in the small dining room is unexpected and wonderfully intimate. The quaint, home-y feel makes this restaurant a wonderful little find, with only ten or so tables inside and 5 small tables offered on the street (though you have to put up with foot traffic quite close by). With its warm and inviting decor, Giardinetto might let you forget you're in the middle of the city...though the wine list won't let you forget you're in Australia. It's hard to transport yourself to Italy with only 2 Italian red offerings. :/
