There are bookshops staffed by people who can't read don't read or couldn't give a stuff about books. Not Gleebooks. You'll find someone here who knows more about your favourite writer/topic than you do. It's the closest I've come to the legendary Gotham Book Mart in New York (alas long gone). You join the Gleeclub and you get a percentage based voucher for new books every year. And for those fans of the loathsome amazon, books ordered through Gleebooks will arrive quicker and in most cases cheaper. There's also Gleebooks second hand which is another wonderland for book nerds - buy and sell and browse blissfully for hours
Second-hand store has second-hand service
If you want to head to Gleebooks' Second-hand and Children's specialty shop down the road, don't expect much in the way of service. They do, however, carry a wide selection of children's stories and young adult lit, as well as a crammed room of secondhand stuff, but if you want some good customer service then this isn't probably the place. For the half-dozen times I've stepped in there, only once has anyone asked me if I need assistance, and you pretty much have to flag them down -- which is funny, because there's hardly room to turn around in.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great little shop if you know what you want. Or if you don't mind trying to get someone's attention. But I'd prefer the slew of other second-hand joints where the staff actually notice you.
