Decent drinks, nice spot, excellent food
I was here for the first time the other night. It wasn't exactly pumping (it was a Wednesday, but still, for the heart of Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, not busy at all).
But it was a good find - the drinks are well mixed, even if the main barman on duty seemed new and not that well informed. But good wines, at least a couple of quality whiskeys, gins were on hand, as well as nice beers on tap including Peroni.
Most surprising was how good the food was - delicious fried olives, seafood including flash fried calamari; seared scallops with black beans; and pretty good sliders (mini-burgers). I stumbled out happily tipsy and satisfyingly full.
If in the area, I'd certainly be back.
Bring the gin, Batman !
I have a lot of rules for bars, and this one satisfies them all. There must be good gin available - tick. Good wine - tick. Good cocktails (with a range of cocktails that are not blue, bright green or sickly sweet) - tick. And a squishy sofa and flattering lighting - tick. Gotham ticks all the boxes, and the service is pleasant and swift. Extra points for the deep fried olives - a work of fast food canape genius.
Great new place on oxford st
On Tuesday night we had dessert at Gotham Bar on Oxford St - we had gone there for a dessert cocktail, but end up having something so much better... Gelato with a shot on the side to pour over it - mine tasted like toffee apple and it was yummy!
It was my third visit to Gotham and I have decided I really like it.
The bar staff are always friendly and helpful- letting you taste the wine before buying, making you whatever shots you request etc.
But my favourite thing about Gotham is the decor - there’s a retro looking faux clock face behind the bar, marble tables, booths and upstairs fabulous black revolving chairs.
