Food perfect, scene great, attitude stinks
You want ribs? Got it. You want steak? Got it. You want other cooked stuff? Sure but why are you asking? The only thing to order is the rib rack and steak combo. Hurricane's cook the perfect rib rack and steak meat lovers experience that everything else on the menu is just there to fill out the pages. In fact I recommend you just order like this.... say it in one go so you can skip the questions from the waiter. "Rib rack and steak. Pork. Medium rare. Baked. Sour. Monkey.": These 10 words will give you all you need. Let me translate
1. Rib rack and steak- half rack of ribs and medium rump steak combination
2. Pork - that is the rib type you want instead of lamb (religion permitting)
3. Medium rare - how you want the steak cooked
4. Baked - you want baked potato not chips as you are trying to be (cough cough) healthy
5. Sour - the sour cream topping you want on your (cough cough) healthy potatoes
6. Monkey - the relish and bbq sauce special they have called Monkey Gland sauce.
BUT - know this. You will be treated like crap when you turn up. Reservations are compulsory but irrelevant. Book a table for 7,.30pm, turn up at 7pm, get seated between 8.30pm and 10pm. Call ahead and say "can I come down now with wife and two kids". They will say " of course you can". But when you get there you will be told to take your 8 yr old and 4 yr old to the bar for a 30 min wait. The restaurant is so packed they don't care
Unmatchable food hit hard by a "you are lucky to get a table at all" mentality.
Service and organisation just gets worse but AMAZING STEAKS & RIBS!
The lines, crowds, randomly adminisistered waiting list and time to get served have always been lousy but they seem worse everytime I visit.
So why keep coming here?
For some of the most flavoursomely marinated steaks and ribs (at not completely outrageous prices) you'll find in Sydney. It's a big place, but, as hinted at, always packed to the gills.
If you want the food but can't take those crowds or the dubious service, there's the same food available for take away at the 'Hurricane Express' outlet next door.
If you love meat and live in or are visiting Sydney, you'll want to come here at least once in your life.
A pinnacle of gastronomy for meat-lovers
While the wait is long, the steaks are divine. This place is a pinnacle of gastronomy for meat lovers! I don't know what basting they use, or what spell has been cast over the grill, but if I had a last meal, a steak at Hurricane's would be it.
Horrible customer service but great food
I used to love this place when the service and the food were both great but since the departure of the original owners, the service has slid and is now plumbing the depths of bad. The food is still good, but the staff act as if they're doing you a huge favour. The last time I went there, I took a party of 8, spent $1,000 and they told me I couldn't have salad instead of chips or baked potato with my ribs - unless I paid for it. I asked for the manager, thinking sanity would prevail, but, no, he dug his heels in and refused point blank to accede to my request. I'm not going back.
Great service & drool worthy ribs
Great experience all together. Highly recommended. Go for the full rack of ribs!
