One of the best bookshops around

One of the best bookshops around. It is really well laid out, with different stations so you can search for particular books, or browse the various sections for something interesting. There is a good gift card section and a nice cafe also. It seems reasonably priced and they seem to have a huge stock. It would likely appeal to the Japanese/Australian crowd as it has books in Japanese and English.

People who say print is dead obviously don't shop here!

You will find me in the crminology, marketing, anime and music lit sections buying up a storm here! Such a great selection of books and so very handy to Town Hall Station.

Bookshops like this really kick serious butt. Lots of obscure as well as mainstream texts, lots of topics, imported magazines and well laid out. I never go home without at least 2 books in hand. It makes the usual chain stores look like amatuer hour.

Kinokuniya is a great book/ stationery store which is half a minutes walk from Town Hall Station.

It differs from the average book store because it has extremely large sections devoted to humour, cartoons, manga (Japanese cartoons), arts and crafts, and cooking. If you're into Korean/ Japanese/ Chinese books, they have a large selection of those too.

One can also find other bizarre and wonderful items which are too difficult to describe, but would make great gifts for anyone with a sense of humour. Oh and they have a free giftwrapping service, so you'll be ready for that party when you exit the shop.

If you end up spending a day in the shop browsing and get hungry, there is also a great Japanese restaurant just a few steps out the door.

Huge bookstore with a great crime (and other genre) selection

Kinokuniya is my favourite bookstore as it has a huge selection and, in particular, has a great crime section with most of the classic crime novelists that you can't find elsewhere.  There's also an excellent selection of children's books.  The whole store is very well laid-out, so it is easy to find things, and they have an easy to use computer if you are looking for more specialized non-fiction books.  They also have a range of Japanese stationery & gifts, a really big Japanese & other Asian languages section, and a cafe.  BTW:  the Japanese cafe on the same floor (Ichiban Boshi) is delicious - good to stop by for a noodle soup before or after browsing in Kinokuniya.
