authentic Parisian bistro food in Darlo
Love this restaurant. Have been about 5 times (even with young children in tow occasionally), and have enjoyed it everytime. My husband enjoys eating here too, and he grew up in Europe.
C'est magnifique!
It's the bistro everyone wishes they had round the corner. Classic and classy French fare. I'm sure the rest of the menu is great, but given I have freshly shucked oysters and steak tartare every time I go, I'll have to take the word of my happy fellow diners for that. As a final recommendation - my wife and I like it so much we had our wedding reception there. And the service? Let's just say after we stayed out far too late and the hire car we had booked to take us to our hotel cancelled on us, and a taxi was impossible to find at 1.30am on December 20, the restaurant manager was kind enough to drop us there on his way home.
C'est l'amour!
Do you remember when Sydney restaurants delivered great food AND value for money? I'm thinking of a time just before the 2000 Olympics, when we were an undiscovered food haven, and chefs felt the need to prove they were world-class without charging world-class prices. Now, it seems, things have reversed: we lead the world in $50 main courses that taste the same as every other $50 main course in town, but not quite as good as your Mum's spaghetti bolognaise. Anyway La Brasserie is a throwback to that wonderful time when eating out was both a wonderful experience, and reasonably priced. And it's as French as kissing on a bench. La Brasserie - c'est l'amour!
Delicious French bistro fare; excellent service.
This warm and welcoming French restaurant in East Sydney serves up well-executed traditional bistro fare; the steak tartare is particularly good, and their fries are fantastic. The service is great: friendly, helpful, and just the right level of attentiveness. A great place for a date, or dinner with friends.
I respect it without being blown away (though I'm in the minority)
I realise almost everyone else who eats here adores it. Personally, I'm slightly underwhelmed. The steak is delicious, as you'd expected of a competent French bistro.
But on the other hand, it is French, so personally, I find the service can be standoffish and snarky and everything's always seemed to be my fault.
But the steaks' quality is beyond doubt and, if you're into steak tartare (I have a thing about dying of food poisoning, myself), I hear it's excellent, too.
But overall, I'm not sure the emperor's wearing as many clothes as everyone else seems to.
