A bakery chain with heart and soul
There's a certain kind of romaticism that comes with old-fashioned baking. Nostalgia, maybe. Le Pain Quotidien (daily bread in French) is a Belgian bakery/cafe chain that plays up this notion to a T, but manages to avoid the cheese and instead remain rustic, charming, and most importantly delicious.
From the warm wood tones of the interior, the light classical music piping through the stereo, and the (sometimes French/Belgian) attentive staff, it's a calming, stylish atmosphere in which to sip your caffe latte -
served in a bowl - and sample the tasty baked goods on offer.
They also offer a full breakfast and lunch menu, which I have tried a few times with varying results. Best to stick with their coffee and baked goods, as it seems to be what they do best.
The table service is a welcome change, and the staff are generally friendly and competent (although as with everywhere there are some exceptions).
An inviting respite from Norton St (and not just for Francophiles!)
My Wife Loves it
We've been fans of Le Pain since our time in the States and we're loving that they've made the jump here to Sydney. Excellent coffee and pastries make this a great meet up spot for friends. It's not your local Sydney cafe but drop in a give a try. It's a new flavor for Leichardt.
