Good beers, good chips, great service, know who they are
This prominently located but somehow hidden pub has an excellent range of beers, outstanding pub food (delicious chips, and a Melbournite's approach to the parmo). The service was great - its one of those surprisingly rare places that realises that if you have more people serving behind the bar you will get through more customers and make more money - even though the place was packed you never seemed to have to wait for service. My one gripe was the otherwise friendly staff didn't seem to want to show the footy finals on TV, which given half the crowd had just come from another footy final up the road, seemed not to know its audience. That said, I often hate the way footy screens take over pubs (and I say this as a footy fan) so on one level it has my grudging respect.
Hip hangout with great beers
Beer lover hideaway
Beer lover hideaway. At least 14 local and international boutique brews on tap. Some are hits, some are just okay...but they are all interesting. The Local offers tasting platters where you or they can select 5 beers to sample...then you can stick to your fav. Atmosphere is cozy and warm....not full english pub, but lots of wood.
