Bigger space, quality improved, but still pricey
UPDATE: Maloneys has had an upgrade and it's now much more like an upmarket grocer ... having revisited, I really like the space and I think the fruit and veg quality's better. I'm impressed by the range of goods - fresh breads (Sonoma etc), yummy 'boutique' mueslis ... But it's still more of a place for a 'treat'... those yummy mueslis cost $13 a packet (not a box), for example. I've added a star...
PREVIOUS: I've bought fresh fruit and vegetables from Maloney's occasionally in the past but I'm not a return customer because at these prices I expect produce to be freshenough to last more than a couple of days. Things went 'off' far too quickly after each visit (you allow for the odd bad apple, so to speak...but there was a pattern). I'll happily pay top price for good produce, and do so at two other fresh food stores in Randwick and North Randwick - which I should really now go ahead and review!
Well stocked with organic and health food but cheap it ain't
Maloney's is Coogee's go to place for organic and health foods, including lots of hard to find imported items. It's well staffed with informed folk, too. But, as you might expect of a speciality organic health food store, cheap it ain't - expect to pay twice (or more) what you might in a supermarket (though, of course, you'll be hard pressed to find many of these items reliably at most supermarkets).
So, a good place for the healthy stuff, but not a bargain one.
