A good night out for 30 bucks

I really like this place. It has zero pretensions, serves up very tasty Indian (the butter chicken passes the test, which is key) and is BYO. We were there recently and feasted to our heart's content for the grand sum of $30/head. The BYO beers were marginally extra, but after years of getting jammed by the Eastern Suburbs' upscale finest, this was a welcome throwback to cheap, tasty and informal dining. Probably a 3 star place but delivering 4 star value.

Good Indian food, great prices, social vibe

This Surry Hills long-timer has figured out an offer that clearly appeals to plenty of people: good Indian food, pleasant & bright surrounds, low prices, and BYO.  I've been there a few times, each with a fairly large group, and have left satisfied with food and service, and thrilled with the price - amazing what a difference bringing your own bevvies makes: a bill of $30 pp for tons of food!  I now feel like I've been overspending everywhere else.  The online booking is great too.

Amazingly cheap and cheerful, though not fast and food's only ok

This longstanding, very popular Indian restaurant (encouragingly popular with Indian diners, it seemed, from my visit) has a fun, cheery vibe, very friendly service, and proved to be quite amazingly cheap ($30 a head for a table of 7). The BYO is a plus (though I did notice they also serve some quite hard to find, good Indian beers like Kingfisher and Hayward 5000) and explains the low prices, in part.

All that said - and it was a busy Friday night, admittedly - the service was often not quick (took a while to grab people's attention; slow delivery of some dishes) and the food itself is a fairly mixed experience: some things great (lamb cutlets, lamb sagwallah (with spinach)); others (most of the chicken dishes) rather oily and unmemorable.

But it's certainly fun for a cheap feed. If it's great Indian food you're looking for, you might want to look elsewhere (I remain a huge fan of Mand's Tandoori in Randwick).

Still, you won't be bored eating there.
