MFC Supermarket Variety Store: Summer Hill

The faded sign painted on the wall says “Growers Market” but this refers to a previous incarnation more than 20 years ago. The shop is like a convenience store but it has an eclectic and arcane range of goods – ordinary grocery items and then every kind of Asian ingredient and a big variety of spices. You can buy for example, Maggie Beer ice-cream, rice papers, a mortar and pestle, chick-pea flour, incense sticks, palm-sugar, those Indonesian ginger jelly lollies, saffron & vanilla beans, phone-cards for overseas, all side by side with milk, cereal, chocolate and tomato sauce. If they don’t have an item, they try and get it in for next time.
