Not worth the trouble
As a freelancer, I rely on contract work, short and long, in order to make a living. I have a good base of customers and clients and businesses that call on me on a regular basis and also refer me on to others. Last year, I registered with Monday's Picnic in order to expand that network. They specialise in finding contract placements for people.
The main issue was from whoa to go I felt a bit patronised and it smacked of the standard recruitment office environment as opposed to be geared towards contract and freelance. I had to explain a few times full time was of no interest to me for example, and whilst I understand it's a job that calls for someone to be really bubbly, approachable and friendly, the consultant I saw was so OTT I thought she must of mainlined red cordial before she interviewed me and said the most inappropriate and unprofessional things.
What was the most disappointing thing is they have only rung me three times in the last seven months, and two of those times I was put up for the job, cleared my schedule and then informed it went to someone else. I understand client's have different needs and so forth, but there seems to be a definite lack of consideration how much setting aside half day interviews, clearing timetables and refusing jobs impacts on freelance workers. I also am not really sure they are for freelancers and are more a tradtional recruitment place trying a different angle to get workers.
I am sure they work for some people, but also know other freelancers who have registered with them who have shared my experience as opposed to a positive one. I will not be recommending them to anyone in future.
Oh for a decent, no fee up front, non auction freelance place to go to!
