Musem of Contemporary Art (MCA): Sydney

Like Tate Modern in London, the MCA is an imposing figure, dominating (in a good way) the landscape in it's corner of Circular Quay.  Set to get even bigger, with a new extension currently underway, it is a favourite for functions, along well as tourists and locals who come for the art.

When you get inside the space actually feels smaller than it seems from the street, but that still leaves a number of vast floors for whatever exhibitions are underway at the time.  It can get busy, so the late night opening options are always worth a look.  Elizabeth Ann McGregor does a fantastic job of directing a broad range of interesting exhibitions throughout the year, and there is something for everyone in terms of program offering.

Like all good museums the shop is worth a visit on its own, great books, DVD's, jewellery, accessories and assorted gifts.  Members receive a discount.

The staff are ok, it's a coveted volunteer/eployment gig in the student world, so most will be knowledgable, if little 'too cool for school.'

The MCA is a must for visitors and locals alike.
