Does anyone actually work in Myer Chatswood? I'm struggling to understand how they sell anything. At all. 

So I had to set foot in Myer at all because I have a gift card, earned from my hard spent Macquarie credit card points. Frankly there is no other reason to shop there and as they sell frying pans and I needed one, I found myself in there last week.  For 55 minutes. Buying a frying pan. Good grief almighty how can it take 55 minutes to buy a frying pan?  Here's why:

  1. No prices on the items;
  2. Stocktaking sale means all items are reduced by either 20, 30 or 40% but I can't tell which item on which shelf relates to which reduction;
  3. Mental arithmetic is not my strongest point but I'm not too bad, so how on EARTH does anyone who struggles to do maths work out the actual price of the item?
  4. Each item I pick up either has no price sticker at all or it's hidden on the box; which has been separated from the item;
  5. How can I understand the features of each item and understand the differentiator from an item half its price when there is NO information about it? 

I'm going spare by now, and do you think I can find anyone to help me? No. But I can't leave because I'm locked into my purchase through the gift card.

Finally I succumb to brand power and pick up a Jamie Oliver Professional pan and stride purposefully to the cash desk. 

Me: "May I give you a little customer feedback? It has taken me  55 minutes to buy this frying pan - here's an example of why (handing her a frying pan box) - please can you tell me how much this is?"

Sales lady: "Urm - (some 2 minutes later)..... $139, and sorry I have just come back from my lunch break so I don't know what's going on."

At this point, the 2 customers behind me chip in with their own disgruntlement; one of them is trying to buy on a bridal register and is about to walk out.

Really, I needn't go on further but come on Myer, cutting your cost base by reducing floor staffing might make sense to the CFO but it is costing you sales. Period. But I am happy with my frying pan at least, how mundane is that?
