New Shanghai Chinese Restaurant: Chatswood

New Shanghai is a gem of a Chinese Restaurant.  Its one of those authentic type of places where the English is a bit lost in translation and you have to point at the photos of what you'd like to eat.  A true sign that you have found the real deal. 

When you enter New Shanghai, there are big glass windows where you can see smiley Chinese ladies making pork dumplings by hand at a record pace.  The menu prices are small and their portions are big.  The restaurant is very casual and usually very busy - great for a lunch with officemates during the work week.  The specialty here is their dumplings (obviously),  steamed pork buns, and noodle and dumpling soups.  One of my faves is their steamed green beans with dried prawn flakes (try it - you like it!).  Order a variety of dishes and share the love.  

Take away is available, but their service is very fast.  Bonus tip:  Ask for some frozen dumplings to take home - a welcome souvenir to those who were unable to join you in dumpling paradise.
