Acoustics anyone?
The food is good, but not great....and somehow the wait, the noise, and the scene conspire to making North Bondi Italian Food less than the hype. It's hard to go wrong with a view straight out of the Aquabumps photo gallery, but they manage. Surely the waitstaff are good but they face such pressure of crowds that the surge doesn't let them shine. Last time I was dining there I was contemplating the awful acoustics when I realised into my first course that I had been given the wrong salad. Since my senses were bombarded with noise and crowds I couldn't grab the waiters attention to correct the situation. So, like the restaurant, the salad wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't what I had in mind.
Superb food, fabulous cocktails and wines, but Oy!, the crowds!
This is one of my fave Sydney restaurants - beautiful modern Italian food (air-light calamari, lovely pastas, great steak) and stellar cocktails and Italian wines. But God help me with the crowds! In the peak of summer, it's almost unbearable, to say nothing of near impossible to get a table (2 hours waits at the bar are not uncommon). You best bet is a mid-week lunch or dinner in the off-season. If you can get in, and the crowds aren't too nuts, it's one of the nicest places for an early evening drink or dinner in Sydney, overlooking North Bondi.
An all-time favourite
I had heard the hype but was more satisfied when my expectations were surpassed. A last minute decision to stop-in with some friends turned into one of my favourite restaurant experiences in Sydney. The views are unbeatable, the vibe exudes sexy-Sydney, the food is delicious and perfect for sharing, and the staff is friendly and not too bad to look at either.
