The Oak Barrel

Down the less salubrious end of Elizabeth Street, Sydney city (towards Central Station) is this handsomely fitted out wine and spirit shop selling high end stuff. I came here for a fancy rum I couldn't find elsewhere. They also do amazing scotches. The prices don't seem great, but the service is attentive and well informed (though an older woman, who may be one of the owners, hovered about as I was served, doing nothing but eyeing me dubiously).

But for something I couldn't find elsewhere at a better price (which is much of what they stock - rare items) I'd be back in a flash. They also do lots of scotch and other spirits tastings, which look like fun.
