Omerta

Omerta had been on my food must do list for months, yet somehow we always shied away, thinking it would be crowded and just a little too cool for school.  When a relative came to stay, however, I got into gear and made a reservation for a humid Saturday night.

Luckily we got a table by the window, perfect for people watching, and blessed by the small amount of breeze around.  Atmospherically Omerta is loud. While there aren't too many people squashed together the noise level can get high.

We started with three shared entrees, prosciutto, stracciatella with peaches and pear and ricotta.  I feel blessed to have had two cheeses so spectacularly good.  The stracciatella was one of the nicest summer dishes I have ever had, a pure testament to quality produce in season.

Mains were equally as good, succulent cornish hen with grapefruit and a rich beef ragu were enjoyed by all. The menu is simple, seasonal and traditional.  I generally find pasta in many restaurants a bit stodgy, but despite the heat of the evening I could have happily polished off more ragu.

Desserts are also meant to impress, however we didn't feel guilty saying no as we headed to Gelato Messina, owned by the same people.

Service was solid, wine list reasonable and overall I was extremely impressed.
