Plenty of unique and beautiful items
I think I was most surprised by the size of the Paddington Saturday market. The organizers/ neighbourhood planners cram an incredible number of craft booths into the yard – it’s almost enough for you to lose your bearings among the narrow aisles. Among these many booths, you can find all types of crafts and clothing, from hand made soaps and placemats to jewellery and baby booties. There is also a courtyard full of food vendors to ensure that you have plenty to eat to sustain you on your shopping adventure. As with any crafts fair, there are a few vendors with kitschy low-quality products, but there are plenty of unique and beautiful items available, so you barely notice the booths not worth your time.
Great shopping!
Paddington Markets is the perfect place to find a prezzie for any of the ladies in your life, with a fun, stylish, and relatively inexpensive selection of jewelry, clothes, homewares, and baby items. The stalls are generally of a high standard - i.e., not too much of the low-quality, useless junk that can be found at other markets. (Though plenty of beautiful, high-quality, and highly discretionary things.) My fave stalls are Pratten (which sadly doesn't seem to have a physical store anymore) for leather goods and Miao Girl (sp?) for funky shirts. Agree with BMZ that Shu Shu is also great. A fun Saturday spot.
Don't miss the Shu Shu stand
If you like to give handmaid things, Paddington Markets offers plenty to fill your holiday hamper. And, I must offer an insider's recommendation for the Shu Shus. These are little leather shoes for babies and toddlers. They are useful, delightful, and wonderfully distinctive. If you have people on your list who listen to the pitter patter of little feet, Shu Shus are a Paddington Market treasure trove.
