Getting a table at Pizza e Birra is sometimes tricky but it’s always worth the effort. Prop yourself up at the bar while you wait and the staff will roll out the olives to tide you over. Once in the restaurant, grab a couple of pizzas to share. The Fruit de Mare is my pick and comes topped with steaming seafood including calamari rings, mussels and tasty tomato sauce. At this stage of the night, you probably don’t need another drink but a glass of red is too good to resist. Now stumble home. Avoid the temptation to enter The Clock. Yes, it’s oh so close but when you wake up in the morning, you’ll be thankful you remained strong.

Legit Prosciutto makes it worth the (long) wait

I am not a fan of standing on long lines on a Saturday night, ESPECIALLY just to eat a slice of pizza. I mean, honestly, can’t you just get a slice at the corner shop, open until 2am?The answer is, you can GET a slice at 2am from the pide place without waiting, but it’s not going to be nearly as good as you’d get from Pizza e Birra. So first, the wait WAS irritating, made more so by the fact that our group was told we’d only have to wait a half hour. We went to a bar nearby to get a drink, and an hour later, they called to say our table was ready. We rushed back, only to wait another half hour. But the pizza itself was excellent. We were a large group so I sampled several pizzas. Eggplant pizza – awesome. Porcini mushroom pizza – divine. And the prosciutto pizza? Hands down, the best I’ve had. Prosciutto of a good quality is hard to come by in Sydney. I know because I can tell the difference between imported and domestic by just looking at it. This was the real deal. The wait staff, while busy, were super friendly. Our numerous requests for water and more bread were answered quickly, and our darling Italian waiter had the sweetest accent and he knew it. Just as you’d expect an Italian pizzeria to be.

Great environment, super friendly staff and great food

A group of 9 of us dined here last night to farewell four of our group who are heading off to South America. Whilst I'm always wary of a restaurant that won't accept bookings, the staff could not have been more helpful in ensuring us a smooth seating.

There was a queue of about 10 people when we arrived (early at 6.30pm but the restaurant was already packed!) but we waited at the bar and were supplied with mini garlic pizza bits as we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink. Our allocated wait staff member kept us fully informed of the progress of our table (having offered us 2 choices of suitable tables) and then sat us quickly once our chosen table became free.

Whilst the restaurant was very busy, I was relieved to note that the natural buzz and noise that accompanies large numbers of diners was well muted and we could easily hear each other over our dinner conversation.

Now obviously a restaurant called pizza birra suggests a menu of beer and pizza but be assured the menu offers a lot more choice including a nightly specials blackboard. Choose from pasta, pizza and a good range of main meal seafood and meat dishes. This is accompanied by a good selection of wines from interesting regions of Italy, available both by the glass and bottle.

Staff were very attentive and prompt, our meals were delicious and easily shared and all in all, a wonderful dining experience to farewell our travellers.

Came highly recommended to us and I also highly recommend it. But note, it is a busy restaurant that does not accept bookings so you may need to be prepared for a wait on Friday or Saturday night (we dined on a Sunday night).
