Lovely food.
Razors Bistro is an example of how the restaurant meets pub thing can work. Prior to the refurb a while back, the Queens hotel was a hole and Razors Bistro was actually a restaurant down the road called Razors Edge. Something, somewhere, somehow aligned and like adding milo with milk, a perfect combination appeared.
As pub bistros go in the area, this is a good one with a selection of quality meals in a setting that is very un-pubby out the back. If you like basic, unrefined, boring pub food and you like grotty old school pubs, then go elsewhere like The Courthouse in Newtown. If you're not the typical innerwest poverty stricken trendy young kid trying hard to look cool and be seen, then try Razors at least once. You will probably be back.
Delicious food in a Miami Vibe
Went here last week with a girlfriend and had a wonderful experience - I wasn't expecting much to start given that it was at the back of a pub, but once you get inside, there's another vibe entirely. The upstairs is especially special with the lounge area and fireplace and the indoor-outdoor area with swaying palms and low lighting. The whole place really had a great vibe - like a South Beach hotel in Miami. The service was very attentive and our water glass was never empty. But by far, the best feature of the restaurant was the food - simply delicious. The menu wasn't extensive, but it was complete - there's fish, duck, steak, a vegetarian dish and a few other mains - highly recommend both the filet mignon and the duck. Both were generous portions and cooked to perfection. One other thing I appreciated about the food here is that it tasted healthy and wasn't saturated with butter or salt. It was inventive and included ingredients I wasn't expecting otherwise (macadamias in ocean trout - yum!).
Highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner out or a first date or a drink - you won't be disappointed.
