It's refreshingly quiet and intimate
Speakeasy Bar is a little gem. It doesn't have to be in Bondi Beach because there is nothing beach-y about it: no nice view, no surf-y vibe, and no backpacker mania. Instead it's a sophisticated little joint where you go if you want a catch-up over a nice glass of wine and some delicious treats. I agree with the other reviewer, the staff were good to us, not fawning, just knew their stuff and let us get on with our speakeasy conversation.
Cosy, good value wine bar
A touch of Melbourne in Bondi. This wine bar is cosy (small room with eclectic seating arrangement for about 20 people). The tapas menu is limited but what we had was absolutely delicious and it was great value. Look for the specials and try the haloumi and heirloom tomato salad.
Expect a crowd and be patient for a table. There is another wine bar diagonally across the street where you can have a few wines whilst waiting for a table inside Speakeasy Bar.
My friend and I shared a nice bottle of wine, a delicious fish pie, haloumi and tomato salad and dessert for about $42.00 each.
Really enjoyed it!!! and despite a review that the staff weren't friendly I found the opposite. I would go again tomorrow!
cozy & special, a little treasure to bondi
After hearing so many great things about Speakeasy (not to mention that delicious smell that seemed to dance out to me every time i walked past), I finally went to see (and taste) what all the fuss was about. As soon as you enter you feel like you're displaced from Bondi and in another little world of your own. The lighting is dim and the inside has the warmest glow. The seating is very limited, but we actually enjoyed the coziness and closeness to the other diners. Its a very romantic place but has a very sexy undertone to it. Being vegetarian I often find it hard to enjoy delicious and unique tapas, but there were so many wonderful options on the menu and my partner (extremely carnivore) and I were able to find plates to share that we both enjoyed. They have specials on the chalkboard as well, and all the food was absolutely amazing. The portions are appropriate and filling, the wine selection was great, and the friendly staff made the evening absolutely perfect. This little nest of a restaurant is a place I will most certainly be returning to!
