A Muay Thai kick to the tastebuds (in a good way)
First off, this review is a bit late but I'd like to give a shout out to the awesome staff at Spice I Am who gave fellow maven JGan and I a free meal there after taking photos for Customer Underground.
We had three fantastic dishes there which I HIGHLY recommend, a spicy duck curry, crispy pork with basil and soft shell crab on a mango salad. Don't be fooled by the mundane sounding dishes. I honestly can't rave more about this restaurant. It is just orgasmic. Stop reading this review and just go there. Right now. Don't care if its 2am and you can't sleep just go there now and camp outside til they open. Trust me, it will be worth it.
Surperb food, otherwise a little bland.
Went here for a quick bite with the fam before the theatre. It was packed. And I mean, packed. We had to wait for 20 minutes on the street, holding our brown-paper bags of wine (the restaurant is BYO - Yay!). And we were a larger party of 6 people, so they had to split us up; 2 at one table and 4 at the other - across the restaurant. But it was all worth it for the food! OMG, really. Spicy, tasty, with oh-so-many layers of flavor. You could taste the spice. And the sour. And the hint of sweet. It was truly delicious thai food. They rushed us in and then rushed us out, but all-in-all, I loved the food so much that I forgive the other small inconveniences...
Make sure you go to the right one
Spice I Am has 2 outlets - one just off Elizabeth st & one in Victoria St.
The Elizabeth st restaurant is amazing. The food is second to none, it's small and always busy, and feels like you truly are on Pat Pong eating fresh, tasty Thai.
Highly recommend, but probably not a place to go for a long drawn out meal with a large group of friends. For this, try their other restaurant off-shoot HOUSE, which is on Elizabeth st. Used to be the Italian joint, Sopranos. Highly recommend the artery clogging desert called "BLT".
