St Luke's Private Hosptial

I spent a night recently at St Luke's attending a sleep study for my two year old son. (If you're thinking of doing a sleep study with a child under 10 years of age, think again - 15 electrodes stuck to every available piece of skin hooked up to a computer certainly qualifies as "study" but hard to see how the "sleep" part will be achieved.) On arrival, we were greeted with an efficient and friendly receptionist and were served a hot and nutritious evening meal. They forgot my two year old's jelly and ice cream but got the rest right. My real complaint is with the hospital staff themselves - we didn't see them much and didn't require their help at all as we were under the care of specialised "sleep technicians" but they still managed to be unpleasant. The looks of horror on each face at the nurse's station when my boy ran down the hallway at 6am after a sleepless night, tripped over and started to howl, suggested they had never seen a child before, much less ever cared for one. My impressions were confirmed later that day when my husband returned to the scene to collect a toy we'd left behind and found it hard to get a word out of the staff by way of directions or general assistance. Perhaps they're overworked and underpaid but they work in a beautiful building with lots of mod cons and should learn to get over it.
