Great for a family day out - fish, sharks, dugongs, seahorses!
I've been to the Sydney Aquarium twice now and have had a great time on each occasion. Lots here for kiddies too - the tanks are at a level that they can see and they have a touch and feel section where they can put their hands in the water. You can see the penguins being fed and see the dugongs eating tons of lettuce. The glass walkways are very impressive as dugongs, turtles and stingrays sail over your head as you walk through. You need to spend at least three hours here to see everything and there are plenty of coffee stalls along the tour so that you can sit and have a rest while looking at the beautiful fish. Single entry is quite expensive but you an buy an annual membership which more than pays for itself after a few visits. A great attraction in Darling Harbour for locals and not just for tourists.
A really good day out for any age
The aquarium is just as cool as an adult as it was as a kid. It's a really decent day out. The displays and the giant tanks are really awesome, there is so much interesting stuff to see and unlike at the zoo it's pretty hard for the animals to hide. The massive tank you walk through is awesome, it's crazy to have sharks swimming over you, giant manta rays and turtles, it's stuff you don't see anywhere else. The best thing about it though is that it is so different to just going to the movies, or having lunch somewhere you can really take as little or as much time as you like there and you can catch shows they have, chat while you wander and grab a bite. It's a bit expensive and I probably wouldn't suggest going there in the school holidays. You will undoubtedly run into a school excursion but seeing the school kids so excited kind of reminds you how awesome it is anyway. The aquarium is one of my favourite locations for a day in the city, definitely give it a shot especially if you havent been since school days. Just thinking about it makes me want to go again.
