Lovely food & atmosphere. Not-so-lovely service!

You can hear the clatter as you walk up the wide wooden stairs. Gaggles of women chattering over high tea. Eating crustless sandwiches, hot scones, lovely cheesecake and chocolate bites. Champagne and all sorts of exotic tea. It is the Victoria Room in Darlinghurst. We were celebrating two birthdays, so a group of us gals went to take high tea at this eclectic establishment on a Saturday afternoon. The buildout is amazing  - sort of English meets the Orient. Love it!  The cakes and tea goodies were lovely. Only complaint (and it is a big one, seeing as it is high TEA) was that they didn't bring our tea until an hour after we got our cake-stand and sandwiches... Not good. I think they forgot us completely, but then they tried to cover it and say that they were busy, but it is just tea leaves and water, so it is hard to fathom how long that would take. At $45 each for tea and cakes, it was a pretty big oversight to be missing the tea. I was not impressed! But apart from that, we had a great time and I would go back, but as a caution, make sure that they know you want your tea with your cakes!!

The perfect place for a cocktail

After walking into the Victoria Room you feel like you're transported to another world of years past. Hidden behind a burgundy nonchalant awning, Victoria Room is a great place to escape the cover charges of the Cross and enjoy a well-crafted cocktail in a sexy setting. A mix of grandeur and sophistication, the room is draped in velvet but evades the pretension of the super-clubs on a Saturday night. The cocktails are delectable, the small bites menu is inviting and the crowd revels in it all.

There's something I love about the atmosphere at the Victoria Room, especially for high tea. The mix of Victorian, colonial and shabby chic works perfectly and the staff are very pleasant and attentive. Go for the Majestic High Tea which includes a glass of Piper Hiedsick champagne and delicious mini red velvet cupcakes. For a quieter, more personal experience try a Sunday afternoon, rather than a Saturday.

Love this place!

Love this place! Dinner/drinks at the Victoria Room is like spending time in a different (and very special) era. It's a great place to escape to for a special/intimate occasion. They have a comprehensive drinks/cocktail menu and a great dinner and supper menu so it's worth a few visits. Their menu is middle-Eastern inspired so you're guaranteed to get something tasty and different to the run o' the mill restaurant fare.

Best for: Girlie nights out and intimate dinners.

Try their: Supper selection (great food) washed down with some cocktails. If you have a sweet tooth, try their chocolate fondue package for two (be warned: the serving size is ridiculously big!)

Lovely place for high tea. Decadent, plush, cosy, stylish. The food was delicious. Highly recommended for a ladies afternoon out.
