Cutting edge art with a welcoming atmosphere.
I start with a disclaimer: in my 'day job' I work in the arts industry, but not for a gallery. I'm a refugee from the corporate world and have experience in understanding what makes customers happy. I bring this background to my reviews.
White Rabbit Gallery, a relatively new entry to the Sydney art scene, shows others how it is done. A massive four levels of warehouse style space, it is light, white and breezy. No matter how many people are there, and there can be many, you never feel squashed.
The exhibitions are always surprising and intriguing. I always find myself drawn to new and exciting techniques and works, and often you'll be taken out of your comfort zone.
Most importantly it is a welcoming space. Upon entering the staff will immediately say hello, ask if you've been to the gallery before, and give you some hints about maximising the experience. It is this interaction with the guests that makes White Rabbit truly stand out as a place to return to.
The tea room looks lovely, though I can't say I have utilised it yet, and the small amount of merchandise available is of a high quality.
One of the best galleries in Sydney. A must visit.
Fantastic - even for the art-illerate
I have little knowledge, understanding or appreciation of art, and usually find it quite gruelling/ incomprehensible to make my way through any kind of art gallery.
But this experience was totally different - I wanted to stay longer than we were able to!
It is difficult to articulate why - but some factors that helped were (i) 'explainers' on each level who were specifically there so you could ask any questions you had; (ii) artwork was spaced out well - so you didn't feel overwhelmed/ as though there was too much to see; (iii) most of the art was both visually captivating and also appeared to make some discernable social comment/ point.
Wonderful place to spend a couple of hours
Contemporary Chinese Art Gallery - just amazing!!
The White Rabbit Gallery is a privately owned collection of comtemporary Chinese art which has to be seen to be believed. The gallery is over 4 levels and has an amazing collection of the best chinese artists.
I recognised many pieces from artists that I had seen in the best galleries in Shanghai and Beijing.
This is a serious collection!!!!!!!
The works are rotated every 6 months I believe.
The gallery is free to visit and has a really gorgeous tea house on the ground floor.
Latest exhibition is even better!!
I have just been to see the latest exhibition for the second time and LOVED IT AGAIN!! That was my fifth visit to the gallery and I am officially addicted. It is no surprise that I keep hearing people talking about this gallery and without fail highly recommending it.
Follow this rabbit!
This gallery is AMAZING. The art is fabulous - engaging, interesting, and yet accessible - and the gallery itself is very well laid-out, with each floor a bite-size piece. And because it is a private collection, there is a consistent sensibility and story to it. The extra bonus is that you can relax afterwards in the tea cafe and have a cup of lovely tea and small nibbles. (No meal-size fare, but enough to hold you over till your next meal.) I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
