Zensation is a sanctuary. I've been there a number of times when I am the only customer-- how can this be when it's such a gem?! I recommend just handing over your tea selection to the tea maestro. Last time it was something unexpected that smelled like ylang-ylang and blossomed like an anemone in my cup. Zensational!
I'll be back
I recently went to Zensation with a group of 6 for a relaxing Sunday lunch. I hadn't been their before, but I will definately be back.
For $30 each we enjoyed:
- three tea tastings: unfortunately I can only remember the name of the first and third tea we had. First we had the Milky Oolong Tea, Christina showed us how to drink it. As teacup has already said in her review - it's all about the ceremony and the experience. And with our dessert we had the Hibiscus Flower infusion, which was amazing to watch slowly open into a beautiful flower.
- edamame, a fabulously delicious selection of Dim Sum and an amazing range of sweets to round the whole affair off!
The service was very personalised and the atmosphere was very relaxed.
Not only will I be popping back for another tea tasting/dim sum lunch soon, I also plan to return to buy some of the gorgeous teas and tea making paraphernalia as gifts for my for tea loving friends.
A definite 'must visit' for anyone who loves tea.
Zensation is a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon, sampling teas and eating dumplings. They have a great tea selection with information on the different blends, a good selection of ready-to-buy traditional teapot and cup sets, tea blends, etc.
- Decor: Sitting inside, you really feel like you're in a special place.
- Service: Always consistently good and very welcoming.
- Best for: A quiet, relaxing afternoon with your partner/a few friends - a great place to chill out and chat.
- You should try: The Milky Oolong Tea -- they will show you how to drink it. It's all about the ceremony and the experience.
The most authentic and tranquil teahouse in Sydney
I have been looking for an authentic Chinese Tea House for sometime now. The regular Dim Sum places and Din Tai Fung, which are great and worth attending, just don't hit the mark. Until recently I thought I would have to be satisfied with the commercial versions of cultural export, then I found. Just a stones throw from the Bourke st Bakery, Zensation has a fabulous array of teas for everyone to try while tasting their most delicious selection of DIM SUM! Their teas range from floral based calming and invigorating to the interesting and conventional Chinese and Japanese and at a price anyone can afford. The service is hospitable to say the least with Johnny and Christina as well as owner Raymond being more than welcoming. It has an atmosphere and decore akin to a traditional/modern day tea house where anyone can stop by for a casual tea tasting or spend an afternoon with friends. I highly recommend trying them whether you are a novice or the seasoned tea drinker.
