Ad Lib Bistro: Pymble review by getawayguru
Great food, amazing wine list - noisy environment
Ad Lib was the venue for our Friday night girls gathering to celebrate some birthdays of significance.
The location of the restaurant on the Pacific Highway is off-putting initially as I don't fancy the hum of a 6 car highway whilst I enjoy my meal but I need not have worried as it can't be heard over the indoor 'hum'.
My first impression upon walking in the restaurant is noise. We are a group of 5 but it is hard to hear each other over the noise of other patrons. It means we strain to enjoy our conversation and it would diminish the sense of intimacy you may want if dining as a couple.
Putting that aside the food and wine menu is impressive. A wonderful french influence with wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux as well as our nearer neighbours of Tasmania and New Zealand. Wines by the glass, carafe (interesting concept) and bottle.
We all enjoyed our range of meals (entrees from $28, mains from $36, desserts around $12) My confit of duck and lyonnaise potatoes with a side serve of beans was delicious and a perfect portion size for a rich offering.
Service was attentive and notice had been taken when we made the booking that 2 special birthday's were being celebrated and our birthday girls were served their desserts on a decorated plate, a nice touch and it was appreciated.
So, wonderful food and wine options with a touch of France on the upper north shore but the noise levels make it difficult to enjoy the company of your dining companions.
