Bondi Tram Cafe review by clareh
You'll feel sad after going there due to rude service and bad food.
The wait staff at the counter this morning were terribly rude. I also received poor quality food.
When I arrived, I smiled and made a comment to a waitress with straight dark hair about how nice and warm it was there compared with outside. I received a pointed blank stare back and she asked if she could take my order. This was before I could even look over the menu, so (still smiling) I joked that I was not quite 'with it' this morning and needed more time. The waitress gave me a blank, attitude loaded glare and served the woman next to me who'd just
arrived. I felt silly and thought about just walking out, but didn't. I
realise now that I should not have put up with it.
My order was taken by the barista, who was slightly friendlier but still
chilly. My order was turkish toast with jam (takeaway). The barista checked if strawberry jam was ok - showing me that they had it in sachets.
When my order was ready, it was called and left on the bench for me to search for, not handed to me. When taking my food I said 'Thanks. Have a nice day.' to the barista and smiled. She gave me a surprised look and then awkward little smile in return.
It was not until I was on my way to the office that I realised I had been provided with lukewarm unbuttered turkish toast shoved into a brown bag along with sachets of butter and strawberry jam. No knife. No napkin. How am I supposed to butter toast without a knife? Why should I have to butter my takeway order at all? I expected the toast to be buttered, hot and ready to eat. For a price of $7.70 for simple coffee and toast, it should have been done for me. When the barista had shown me the jam the sachets earlier, I certainly did not expect that she would just place them in the bag with the toast.
This is the second time that I have had really poor service from the Bondi Tram (the first time they forgot my order and asked me to pay twice). Appalling customer service. I will not be coming back and feel compelled to help others 'dodge a bullet' as you put it.
I give it one star, only for the ambience.
